Welcome to the HBV Advocate’s AASLD Conference coverage. In an effort to best serve our readership, we will post all the important and interesting abstracts about HBV from the conference. While attending the conference, we will update any abstracts that we personally cover at the conference. The updated abstracts will be marked with the date that they have been updated and posted. The other abstracts posted to the web site are HBV related abstracts posted to www.aasld.org that we have not been able to report on or update.

Diagnostic Tools: Various tests to diagnose and manage hepatitis B including various
biochemical markers, imaging, liver biopsy for grading/staging liver disease
Disease Progression: Various factors that influence HBV disease progression including
genotype, viral load (HBV
· Epidemiology, Transmission, and Prevention Issues: Studies that look at how hepatitis B is transmitted sexually and from mother-to-child, how it is prevented through immunization and use of HBIG, and which populations are at high risk of hepatitis B.
Experimental Therapies: New treatments for hepatitis B including pre-clinical development that
have not yet been studied in humans, and various drugs that are in phase I, II
· HBV Treatment: These studies examine the effectiveness of various antiviral and pegylated interferon drugs used either individually or in combination. These studies also examine the role of genotype, viral load, HBeAg status, and liver health in each treatment’s success or failure.
· HIV and Hepatitis B Coinfection: Disease progression, epidemiology, and liver transplantation.
· Liver Transplantation: Information on allocation of livers, prevention of recurrent HBV after transplantation, treatment of HBV before and after liver transplantation, post transplantation disease progression, and long term outcomes after liver transplantation
